What Does Magnanimity Mean To Expand Your Business?
So, what does magnanimity really mean in our business?
Let me explain to you with my own story…
Back to 2011, when I was still working as a financial planner in Hong Kong.
I kinda like hit the rock bottom in my business. (I think I always hit rock bottom in my life…lol. And I found it later it was something to do with my reticular activating system)
I couldn’t find any new prospects, I couldn’t find any new business, I couldn’t even date a meeting…
At that time, my supervisor, kinda like a mentor to me, told me to do one thing…
“Go treat each of your existing clients a meal!”
You know, I understand that if I treat my career as a business, then sometimes some investment is necessary.
But at that moment, in my situation, I could only feel that it was not a good idea as I was nearly running out of money…
And it was not guaranteed that it would bring me business opportunities, in fact, the possibilities were very small as I had already asked for any possible referrals from my clients before…
While I was worried about this and that, my mentor just told me…
“Forget about your business, just treat them a good meal generously and tell them what you need!”
I was simple mind enough.
I just did what I had been told to do and treat my clients a meal one by one and tell them what I need after each meal.
And the result was…
All the clients that I had requested for more referrals DIDN’T give me any new referrals for different reasons.
However, my clients(who gave me referrals) all gave me referrals before I opened my mouth to ask them.
I was surprised, seriously.
I didn’t know that I could do my business so easily and I literally didn’t know what really happened…
Until years later, I understood that it’s all the power of being magnanimous.
Why Is Magnanimity So Important To Expand Our Business?
Yes, you can say it’s kind of the law of reciprocity.
But more importantly, being in the state of magnanimity meaning that you can give more to others.
It’s not only on the physical facet, but the person you are talking to, can feel that whether you are a person who can give them more value or you are appreciating he/she.
And people are more willing to help and buy from those who show their magnanimity, without giving any pressure on them, right?
In the aspect of influencing and persuasion, would you like to do business with a person who seems can give you more value, or someone who could give you nothing but all the way taking thing away from you?
Former one, right?
But the magnanimity we are meaning here, must not be a fake mentality.
You must feel like you really wanna give when you are being magnanimous.
Only if you can genuinely PRETEND in the state of magnanimity, you can give whatever you can give to your clients or your prospects…
…your clients can see your value.
This is the way you can expand your business by being magnanimous.
And this is why magnanimity is important to expand your business.
So next time, or maybe now, if you wanna expand your business, why not first think of something that you can give to your clients or prospects generously…
…and you’ll see how it’ll work for you!!
